My birthday wish

The more I delve into my obsessive mission to grow and promote native plants to save our ecocystems and wildlife, the more I understand how important Native Americans were in cultivating forests and prairies. These people had learned how to develop relationships with plants and the “wild” landscapes settlers found were a result of these relationships. For my birthday, I would like to raise money for this cause. Native plants and native cuisine were destroyed by colonizers along with the genocide of Native Peoples.

I acknowledge I live on land Sauk and Fox inhabited before us, and before them, the Illinois, and before them, the great mound builders lived here.

“North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS) is a nonprofit organization founded by James Beard award winner, The Sioux Chef, is dedicated to addressing the economic and health crises affecting Native communities by re-establishing Native foodways. We imagine a new North American food system that generates wealth and improves health in Native communities through food-related enterprises.”

Stock Native Plants

“This petition is to make big garden center retailers like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Walmart aware of the need for more native plants and to encourage them and their nursery producers to provide straight-native plants well-suited to the local areas they serve.”
